Location:Botanic Gardens MRT Station, Exit A, on the Circle Line.
Do you know the history behind the Botanic Gardens, the university campus grounds in Bukit Timah, the Command House and the names behind the roads, buildings and sites there? Join Beng and Bianca as they navigate from Botanic Gardens to Bukit Brown via Kheam Hock Road. Along the way, they’ll share information on edible fruits and vegetables in our path, stories of WWII heroes, tales of kampungs, accounts of some of Singapore’s pioneers and background on Chinese tomb designs.
We will be walking along paved roads as well as trekking through jungle; so, make sure to wear the proper outfit for light jungle trekking in sun and possibly rain. There are no bathrooms along the way and no places to buy water (except at the starting point). So, make sure you bring some snacks and drinks, visit the bathroom before we start, and apply mosquito repellent and maybe sun screen. We’ll end at Bukit Brown – Sime Road, from where there are buses to Botanic Gardens and other points.
Bukit Brown was placed on the World Monuments Watch list in 2014. Find out what makes this a heritage site worthy of preserving: http://bukitbrown.com/main/?p=7930
