Smoothie Workshop Draws Rave Reviews from Teachers

Recently, VSS did our smoothie workshop for teachers at a secondary school. Afterwards, the teachers completed a survey which revealed that prior to the workshop, many of them were not aware of the role of meat production in climate change.

Furthermore, all the respondents indicated that after enjoying the workshop, they planned to include smoothies as a frequent part of their family’s diet.

Here are a few of the teachers’ comments.

a. Very enjoyable and enlightening session. Will definitely recommend it to everyone. Thanks a zillion!
b. Reach out to parents too and the young. Thank you very much.
c. This is a very informative & beneficial workshop. The hands-on session is really fun and I’ll definitely go back & start making smoothies. Will also start to cut down on meat and eat more greens instead. Will try out the ‘no meat’ day idea.
d. I’ve had a WONDERFUL time. Can’t wait to try a meatless day(s) in a week!

VSS at Earth Day Events

This past 22 Apr marked the 40th Earth Day. During that week, VSS enthusiastically took part in events at schools and at Singapore Sports Council.

In brief, the three main reasons that meat production harms the environment are:

1. Meat is an inefficient food source, because many kgs of plant food must be fed to non-human animals to produce just 1kg of meat. This inefficiency means more forests must be cleared to grow crops and much more water must be used.
2. The 60+ billion land animals whom we humans eat annually, not to mention the marine animals we eat, produce a huge amount of waste. This pollutes the air, water and soil.
3. This waste contains two particular greenhouse gases, methane and nitrous oxide, which have a great greenhouse gas effect than does carbon dioxide. Furthermore, these gases disappear from the atmosphere faster than carbon dioxide. Thus, cutting our meat production can more quickly reduce the quantity of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, compared to reducing our CO2 production, although, of course, that is also vital.
